Forza Motorsport - Avoidable Contact

This is a list of the clips where I got penalised for Avoidable Contact.

Some of them are fair, some of them are a crime against me and mine.

05/10/2023	Laguna Seca Short Circuit	0.5s	Unjust	So while I'd acknowledge this isn't a great place to pass, this dude braked REALLY early, I was alongside and enough in front they're visible in the mirror, they turn in anyway and I get pinged for it.

What I didn't bank on is the 3rd car firing it up the inside of the two of us - with contact that forced me off coz of my weak position.

If you do one cool thing today, make sure it's to block SecretMovie5917 - that's not a player you want in your lobby!

This time I didn't leave them as much space. They turn in anyway and boom. Penalty for me... Where is the consistency? That said it did wreck their race and maybe the "Poor Network" warning had an effect too.

However the lockup was caused by the car alongside drifting into me, without that contact I'd have been deep but I'd have missed the green car. This is another case of the penalty system getting it wrong in multi contact incidents. Wish I'd remembered to ghost though 😞

I was making the corner but deep, as they where on my outside, unless they lifted and cut back, they where going deep with me. It felt like they did their braking then turned in despite me being alongside. They got a warning, I got a penalty. Not sure that was the right way round tbh.

Player on the inside understeers into me initiating contact (not what the penalty is for). Meanwhile another player dives into the 2 wide, hits the player on my inside who then hits me again. Ends up being pitted by the guy on my inside and I make contact that is impossible to avoid!

In fact I don't think I've had a race in the past week that hasn't been annihilated by players like this. I got pissed off and this player took the brunt of my rage. I regret nothing other than that I am yet another fucking rammer.

However left it as "unsure" as by the time we got to the apex he was fully alongside - however at the time I had no clue he was there and I was slow because of traffic! Given the amount they overshot the corner DESPITE the contact, I'm pretty sure they came in far too hot.

Sadly a pair racing didn't want to leave room for themselves and I got hit. It's possible the second bit of contact is what I got pinged for though. However I'm not really sure how this was my fault.

Sadly they didn't reciprocate and I punted them at the next corner. They could have left space, it's not like it's reasonable to expect me to cease to exist, but then again I did hit them so that's why I'm unsure.

I was recovering from an unforced error, I was leaving space but apparently it wasn't enough for the player I made contact with. You'll note they where at least 3 weeks from the apex!
13/03/2024	Homestead-Miami Speedway Road Circuit	Warning	Unjust	Two incidents (just left the first in so the clip is less confusing but it's not relevant to this incident). In terms of the entire sequence, I'm not really sure what this player is playing at, they moved in the braking zone, into my path. My guess is they are trying to widen the corner but completely forgot there's someone on their right. They then cut the corner on the left turn, brake hard on the exit then turn left again and I collect them on the exit because they turn into me (I actually suspect they slammed on the throttle and got some oversteer). I get pinged for this... seems a bit wrong to me.

My guess is it's for the re-join contact, you know, the one where I left plenty space to the right and the player that I could not see, could have lifted to avoid contact, didn't and just drove into me.
15/03/2024	Nürburgring Grand Prix Circuit	1s	Unsure	So I felt like this player was blocking a bit, their movements seemed to be reactive. Anyway, this made me decide "fuck it" and I was going to go for the pass no matter what. Given this players was blocking, it's a given they knew I was there, but the moment they are in the braking zone they drift across but I'm already there - the contact is inevitable. What I can't say for sure is whether or not I'd have made the corner without the contact. I would 100% make it at that angle and braking point but their weaving destabilised me and caused me to lock a tiny bit. That might have been enough for me to not be able to make that corner without the contact. Hence I'm not too sure. They 100% turned in though. As an aside, I got dropped to an A safety rating for this 😔

I come out of ghost and I'm hit twice while I'm on the outside and well off the racing line. Don't really see what I could do to avoid this.

I can't go to the right because of a car on that side so I kind of accidentally slide alongside the player. That contact is on me, everything after it is this player just not budging one single Planck length of space. I'm trying to give the place back, off throttle just waiting for some space so I can disengage and try again but that space never comes.

However the rejoin was because of some carnage ahead, in part caused by the player who hit me taking their ordinary racing line with utter chaos happening around them. In hindsight I should have cut this corner a lot more (gone to the left of the kerb) but I didn't because I got pinged for this the last time I raced here.

I stay right to block the second divebomber, they dive in anyway and make contact and spin the car I was trying to avoid! This weapons grade idiot gets me a penalty too. Noice.

The two hits on the corner exit where also on them as they where hitting me. Finally there is the PIT. I mean I was trying to ease left a bit for the car re-joining, the other player didn't seem to be caring about them and was pushing right, the result - a self pit. I backed out the moment I realised this player would keep turning but still got a penalty.

They consistently turned in on everyone, hit anyone close to them and steadfastly refused to leave any sort of racing room. When this opportunity presented, I got my elbows out and forced myself into the gap they left open. I then sat in the middle of the road. As they hit me I just stayed in my lane, not deviating from the line I decided to use. As the other player chose rapidly ran out of road, they tried to ride it out, with predictable consequences. I shed no tears for this one.

I'm just about to make my turn-in when the player behind makes theirs and there's contact that makes me go right instead of left, I lift and brake to correct then get warned for my troubles. Not sure how any of this is my fault. I can see on the replay there is a ton of space to my left but I'd just watched someone pile into turn one and had no clue where they or their unfortunate victim where going to re-join the track so I was just being cautious.

It must be said I didn't know they where there till the first hit, I tried to stay right on the corner exit but they hit me again pushing the rear of my car right and the entire vehicle to move left (classic PIT maneuver). This tells us two things. The genius here tried to stick it out on the outside after hitting and potentially destabilising the car ahead. Secondly that they had very little overlap (when your front wheels are beyond the other cars rear wheels, PITTING isn't really possible without some serious shove - so at best this genius had his nose in)

They might have oversteered on the kerb which even more so makes this patently accidental.

I was messing with the brake pressure setting on the Logitech G Pro and changed it from something to 50. My guess the something was a lower number (you need less force with your foot to apply a given amount of brake). I hadn't realised what I'd done and was using the old amount of pressure with my foot meaning I wasn't using enough brake to avoid this contact. This was a running theme all day. Either way, 100% my fault.

It also felt like they left the door open a bit then closed it. Not sure about this one. Probably mostly my fault though.

However it was just the previous lap I did the exact same thing, only harder this time, but FRR remembering that displays a level of intelligence it hasn't previously shown.

Can't hold a line, bumps you in the side constantly and slows you both down yet never seems to be able to work it out cause and effect. In this one I'm tight on the inside line, they turn into me like I don't exist, bounce off and into the other player. I get pinged for it. Nice one FRR - dropped me back to A as well for this!

By the looks of them slowing down hard and surging forward again, they where on and off the brakes and being generally unpredictable. They maybe just had eyes for the car ahead and didn't clock me on their left. As they turn in they're either back on the throttle or off the brakes again but either way they're not leaving me a cars width to the white line. Contact is inevitable. Then again, the vortex of danger says this is my fault. My counterpoint to that is it's the start of the damn race, awareness of your surroundings is mission numero uno!

They're also lagging - you can see that in the jerky movement - and FRR as always with this sort of thing gets it wildly wrong. That said, I was very VERY late to the brakes - I kinda knew contact was coming coz they moved back to the line but I didn't expect it to spin them. Hey ho, back to A Safety for me.

However I do feel the other player moved in the braking zone a bit - that's why I hit the kerb on the right. They also turned in. However they totally surprised me with how late they managed to brake. With them being on hards I expected them to brake much closer to the 100 board and when they didn't I was kinda caught out. I was also very aware of the car behind me attempting a pass too so felt a bit rushed here. Just excuses though!

I am a bit away from the apex and I have to be honest I wasn't too keen on leaving much space for this player - they'd not done much leaving racing room themselves up to this point - but it really felt like they turned into me rather than anything I did. That is of course if that's what FRR pinged me for. There was secondary contact which actually send them off track but they were behind by that point. There's also a bit of contact from another player on the straight but surely FRR isn't THAT stupid.
09/03/2025	Daytona International Speedway Tri-Oval Circuit	1s	Unsure	So the only reason I marked this unsure is because I did not lift one iota. This player had spent the entire race being completely blind to anything around them. They'd previously taken out another player after leaving the inside line then closing the door last second and they also did a similar thing to me. In that instance contact was only avoided because I moved to avoid them. I complained about it on comms at the time, they heard me and responded. When they did it a second time I was less inclined to try and avoid them. Technically it was avoidable but damn if this player didn't self pit. Seeing it from their POV in the demo shows they just kept trying to squeeze me. I've very little sympathy for this player. While I understand the penalty, it still kind of grates but tbh it's unreasonable to think FRR could correctly assign blame here.

I've clearly got the run on them but still they turn in. The resulting contact and correction makes me wide on the corner exit, they've still got their foot in and go wide themselves. Because they lost out on the contact, FRR blames me. This is how you game FRR.

22/03/2025	Sebring Short Circuit	0.5s	Unsure	I'm braking quite early, 300 board instead of just before 200, and I'm intending to brake more gently so I have control. Unfortunately this player moves across on me in the braking zone, I'd estimate I'm front bumper to front wheel at this point. The contact upsets the car and I slide in the direction of the player, leaving them no room. This is physics 101 but FRR doesn't care why it happened, only who benefitted in the incident. That's a kind of sledgehammer approach. That all said, I could probably have left a little more room on the left but I doubt that would have made a difference once they hit the grass.

I wasn't trying to pass them when they got pitted, I just assumed they'd maybe, for the sake of self preservation, not glue themselves to the racing line assist and maybe leave some space. That was obviously foolish of me. I don't feel at fault for this in the slightest but maybe it is on me as this player demonstrated their disregard for anyone alongside so should I have had my nose in there at all?

At the time I felt the other player moved across on me but in the frame before contact I did appear to be taking the corner like I was all alone. I'm sure I'd have made the apex and stayed on track but I'm not sure there would have been enough room for another car. That said I did brake early and work my way alongside so I had grip to spare - my thinking being that had they stayed alongside I could have slowed more to leave space on the corner exit.

I deliberately went deep into the corner to block them, they turned in anyway but because I'm not on the brakes at the moment of contact and they lost time, FRR blamed me.

Not only where they completely and utterly unable to hold a line, a crucial skill in oval racing, they also seemed to actively ignore their radar so when they swung out wide and I slipped into the gap their skill deficit created, they of course swung straight back to where they where, only I already had an overlap. Result - pitted!

I was trying to go the long way round, I had a bit of overlap but for reasons I don't really understand, this player decided it was more important to squeeze me. As it was pretty clear I wasn't backing out, they still tried to hit the kerb on the right hand kink with the inevitable result. I think FRR is right coz I did spin them but at the same time, doesn't the other car have some agency in this situation? Just leave some room if there's overlap! For self preservation if nothing else.

I backed out so they got the place. Next lap I've caught back up, passed them and we get to the bus stop again. That time I didn't back out and this player spun me, destroying my race and gaining them a 1s penalty. This is the third attempt and again I'm not backing out, I'm also refusing to leave them any racing room at the second corner then change my mind at the last millisecond - this probably saved me from a much harsher penalty had they slammed into the wall - so I come away with a warning only.

Sadly it's not patently obvious to FRR. I feel pretty strongly this penalty decision proves FRR doesn't care about any context to an incident. It just looks at who benefits/who suffers. That's a pretty useless system imo.

I get why FRR pinged me but this player was pushing me on the straight, they then turned in knowing I was there. Due to that contact I lost traction and took us both off the track. Had they not been so aggressive we both would have survived the corner and gone on to fight elsewhere.

I've got some overlap here, surely self preservation means you leave some space. I know I try to when someone is that close. Sadly with some players, they seem completely oblivious to anything not directly in front of them so they turn in. That looks exactly like what happened here. The only question is do I have enough overlap to be due space. FRR does it's usual and looks for a winner/loser in some contact and doesn't care about context.

This player had just divebombed me from about 4 car lengths back. I saw them coming and gave them space so's not to ruin my race. I attack on the next corner but peak Forza Player here just closes the door and I end up pitting them. The penalty is fair from the pov of I did spin their car but dag nab it! Use your radar people!

Maybe I could have been more on the kerb but I'd accept there's an element of forcing some space there. It was always going to be a closing gap. The second hit though... that player washed out wide and left a huge opening then scrambled back to close it too late. The second one isn't on me imo. The first one is just racing. This is done to me all the time and they face no penalties. Hell this player did it to me earlier in this race and got no penalty for it. I do suspect the penalty is for the second hit. It's also the one where FRR is objectively wrong so that fits. That all said, had the second player stayed out wide, would I have been able to leave them racing room? Not sure.

On comms I said that they're going to end up self-pitting if they keep moving across the front of my car as I wasn't going to back out any more. We approach this corner, they know I am there but still they turn in. As I didn't take any avoiding action, I've no problem with the penalty from FRR.

They clearly made contact by sweeping in from the left, bounced off me, losing time, but because FRR is a simpleton, it doesn't actually understand what happened and just blames the "winner".

In honesty, I wasn't particularly inclined to leave them room on the corner exit due to them pushing. As far as penalties go for a professional foul, it was very mild.
